Abstract
The Holy Quran, as the most important source of guidance and foundation of Islamic sciences, has always played a pivotal role in the formation of Muslim thought, culture, and civilization. The special attention of Andalusian Muslims to the Quran and its related sciences, especially the science of recitation and the science of interpretation, paved the way for the expansion of Quranic knowledge and the scientific prosperity of this land. The present study, using a descriptive-analytical method and relying on library resources, explores the position and influence of Quranic sciences, especially recitation and interpretation, during the Umayyad period of Andalusia. The research data were collected and evaluated through the analysis of the works of Andalusian commentators, reciters, and scientists and the study of sources related to the scientific and cultural developments of that period.
The research findings show that the attention of Andalusian rulers and scholars to the Holy Quran has led to the prosperity of the science of recitation and interpretation and the expansion of scientific activities in these areas. Also, the compilation of exegetical works, the spread of Quran education circles, the training of prominent reciters, and the development of Quranic schools are among the most important achievements of this attention. As a result, Quranic sciences have not only played an effective role in promoting the religious and cultural life of Andalusian society, but have also paved the way for the growth and development of other Islamic sciences.
