Shah Abbas I (995-1038 AH/1587-1629 AD) in line with the urban development of Isfahan and with the aim of expanding industry and art in this city, in addition to creating a square, bazaar, and caravanserai for artisans and market guilds, established a series of industrial workshops in the royal buyots (establishments), which continued after him. This industrial complex met the domestic needs of the court and royal harem in terms of tools and supplies and gifts given to heads and ambassadors of other countries, and by producing surplus products and exporting them to the world market, it also increased the income of the royal treasury. Understanding these workshops and their production function helps to understand the state of industry during the Safavid period and its quality and quantity. The question that can be asked is what was the nature of the Safavid royal workshops in Isfahan in terms of institutions and functions? The aim of this research is to investigate the types, organizational structures, and specific functions of Shahi industrial workshops in Isfahan and their advantages over market industrial guilds. This research was conducted in the stage of collecting historical knowledge using the library method and in the stage of examining and explaining the subject using a descriptive-analytical approach. The research findings show that the Shahi workshop complex, with its institutional structures and special production functions, was effective in the expansion of manufacturing industries in Isfahan and the prosperity of the economy and trade of the Safavid era.
